Medical Clinic, San Andres, Guatemala
Since 2010, BB Inc. has conducted periodic medical clinics in rural Guatemala, seeing and treating thousands of patients (mostly women and children). Without these clinics, our patients would most likely not have access to high quality medical care, and often no medical care at all. BB Inc. has also offered nutrition workshops in Guatemala. In addition, we’ve worked with midwives in Guatemala exploring and teaching simple ways to decrease maternal mortality.
BB Inc. has also conducted water purification projects in Guatemala where we distribute iodine drops and teach community members how to purify water with iodine. Iodine is an essential micronutrient that many Guatemalans lack in their diet. This method not only purifies their water but also provides an essential micronutrient.
“Vitamin Baby”
BB Inc. has a children’s vitamin program that serves hundreds of elementary school-aged children. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) over 80% of children in the highlands of Guatemala are malnourished and 24% of the deaths due to malnutrition can be prevented through vitamin supplements. Children who are better nourished develop normally and do better in school. Along with children’s vitamins, BB Inc. has a prenatal vitamin program. These vitamins help the mother and her baby while she is pregnant plus they support more nutritious breast milk and give the mother more energy to care for her children.
